01 // Why
Why I made it
Modern games often put huge amounts of information on screen, which can overload players and break immersion.
I wanted to find out whether a minimalist UI could keep players informed without pulling them out of the game.
02 // How
How I built it
I reviewed UI and UX research, including Fitts's Law, Hick's Law, and the Gestalt principles, and studied the interfaces of popular games.
Then I built two minimalist UIs in UMG and tested them with players, rating clarity, usability, and immersion. Their feedback shaped the second version.
The second iteration came out ahead on immersion, cognitive load, and clarity, thanks to a clearer visual hierarchy, better feedback, and fewer unnecessary elements.
